How it works

What this course does for a Ohio driver, and how you get through it

What the state grants, what it does not, and every rule you will meet between enrolling and your certificate.

A two-point credit if you have 2 to 11 points

Ohio Revised Code 4510.037 lets the registrar credit two points to a driver with at least two but fewer than twelve points who completes an approved remedial course. Once every three years, five times in a lifetime. The BMV's own words: completion "does not remove points from your record, but can act as a cushion against future convictions."

One of the four reinstatement requirements after a 12-point suspension

Twelve or more points within two years is a six-month suspension. To reinstate, Ohio requires you to complete a remedial driving course, retake the complete driver license exam, file proof of financial responsibility (SR-22) for the period the BMV sets, and pay a reinstatement fee. We are the first of those four.

A certificate that satisfies a court order

When a judge orders a remedial course, this course satisfies the order and you receive a certificate to file with the court. By statute a court-ordered completion earns no point credit.

Identity checks. An identity question after every two hours of credited instruction and one more before the final exam. Answer wrong and you get one more try; wrong again and Ohio requires a 24-hour lockout.

If you fail the final. Ohio allows two attempts, at least 24 hours apart. A second failure means retaking the course. We show you the exact time your retake unlocks and email you when it does.

The process

How it works, start to certificate

We handle the first four steps. The last one is at the BMV or your court.

  1. 1

    Enroll and read the contract

    With us

Pay $69.95, confirm your details, and accept Ohio's required enrollment contract. Your 30-day clock does not start until you open the first module, so enroll today and start when you have a clear week.

  2. 2

    Work through the twenty modules

    With us

A visible timer counts your eight hours. Each unit ends with a knowledge check at 80%. Every two hours the course asks you an identity question, as Ohio requires. Stop and resume as often as you like.

  3. 3

    Pass the 40-question final

    With us

Drawn from the state-required bank, graded when you finish, 75% to pass. If you miss it you get one retake, 24 hours later. We show you the exact unlock time.

  4. 4

    Get your certificate

    With us

We enter your completion in Ohio's DETS system, which links to the BMV, and email you the signed certificate PDF during support hours. Local courts cannot see the state record, so keep your copy.

  5. 5

    Use it

    At the BMV or court

Two-point credit: apply to the BMV registrar with your certificate. Reinstatement: complete the exam retake, file your SR-22 and pay the reinstatement fee. Court order: file the certificate with the court by its deadline.

Ohio's 30-day rule

You have 30 days from the moment you start. Then Ohio makes you start over.

Ohio Administrative Code 4501-21-14 requires every student to finish the full eight hours within thirty days of the date and time they first open the course content. Miss it and the state requires the course to begin again from zero. The clock starts when you open Module 1, not when you pay, so enroll now and begin when you can finish.

OAC 4501-21-14. Warnings at day 21, 27 and 29 by email.
