Twelve points. Six months. Four things to do to get your license back.
Ohio lists the requirements; nobody lists them in the order that saves you time. The remedial course is the only one you can finish from home, during the suspension, so it comes first.
How you got here
Ohio assigns points to moving-violation convictions under Revised Code 4510.036. Most violations are two points. Speeding more than 30 mph over the limit, reckless operation and driving with a prohibited blood-alcohol level are four. OVI, fleeing an officer, street racing, leaving the scene and driving under a twelve-point suspension are six. The BMV sends a warning letter at six points within a two-year window. Reach twelve in that window and the suspension letter follows.

12-point suspension questions
How long is an Ohio 12-point suspension?
Six months. The BMV imposes it on any driver who accumulates twelve or more points within a two-year period.
Can I take the remedial course while I am suspended?
Yes. It is online and does not require a valid license. Finishing it during the suspension means your certificate is ready the day you are eligible to reinstate.
Does the course shorten the suspension?
No. The six months are served regardless. The course is one of four reinstatement requirements, not a way to reduce the suspension.
Does completing the course as a reinstatement requirement earn the two-point credit?
No. The two-point credit is a separate program for drivers with at least two but fewer than twelve points. Once you have twelve or more, the course is a requirement, not a credit.
Can I get limited driving privileges during the suspension?
Sometimes. That is a request to the court in your county, not to the BMV, and it is separate from reinstatement. A court may condition privileges on completing the remedial course.
What happens if I drive during the suspension?
Driving under a twelve-point suspension is itself a six-point offense under ORC 4510.036 and a criminal charge. Do not.
How much does reinstatement cost in total?
The course ($69.95 with us), the BMV exam fees, your insurer’s SR-22 filing fee and any premium change, and the BMV reinstatement fee. Only the first is ours; the rest are set by the BMV and your insurer.
