How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Defendant's Request for a Driving Safety Course form (plead guilty or no contest and waive jury trial)
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit (or proof of active-duty military status, or spouse/dependent of active-duty member)
- •Proof of financial responsibility (automobile liability insurance) with your name on it
- •Payment of court costs
- •Affidavit (within 90 days) swearing you are not currently taking a DSC and have not completed one in the preceding 12 months
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of your Type 3A driving record from Texas DPS, submitted by the 90th day
- •Certificate of completion from a TEA/TDLR-approved driving safety course
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Before the answer (appearance) date shown on your citation
- •Completion window: 90 days from the request — course completion, affidavit, and certified Type 3A driving record must all be submitted by the 90th day.
- •Not all offenses are eligible for a driving safety course — the court instructs defendants to contact it before registering for a course.
- •If you fail to submit all required evidence, you will be set for a show cause hearing.
- •The court provides an Unsworn Declaration in Lieu of a Notary form for the required affidavit.
