DSC Court Fees
⚠ Verbatim from court form: 'Pay court costs & non-refundable $10.00 fee (Total $144.00) or ($169.00 School Zone).' No cash or personal checks — remit by cashier's check or money order payable to City of Hutto; a 4.25% service fee applies to credit card transactions.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Written Request for Defensive Driving (on the court's Fines & Plea Form) with no-contest plea
- •Valid TEXAS driver license or permit presented to the court
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion and certified driving record, submitted within 90 days
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Plea/request must be made IN WRITING on or before the appearance date on the citation — 'TELEPHONE CALLS DO NOT CONSTITUTE APPEARANCE'
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the course and turn in the certificate and certified driving record.
- •Court warns verbatim: 'DO NOT PAY THE VIOLATION ONLINE IF YOU ARE REQUESTING DEFENSIVE DRIVING OR A DISMISSAL.'
- •Ineligible if: CDL holder; speed 25+ mph over limit; speed over 95 mph; used DSC in the preceding 12 months; passing a school bus; an accident with vehicle damage or leaving the scene; or offense in a construction zone with workers present
- •All court notices are sent via text message and email — keep contact info current with the court
- •No cash or personal checks accepted; 4.25% credit card service fee
