How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license (shown at time of request)
- •Proof of insurance listing you as a driver (shown at time of request)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion from a TDLR-approved course
- •Certified driving record from Texas DPS (Type 3A)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Before the appearance/answer date on the citation; failure to appear by the answer date adds a $50 late fine per violation
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date of the request to submit the completion certificate and DPS driving record.

- •Court verbatim: 'You can submit your driver safety course completion certificate and driver's record to the court via fax, mail, email, or in person at the court window.'
- •Online DSC requests are no longer accepted — requests must be made in person (or by mail after calling for instructions)
- •Ineligible if: DSC taken in Texas within last 12 months, CDL held at time of violation, speeding 25+ mph over limit (15+ in a school zone), leaving the scene/hit-and-run, fleeing police, reckless driving, passing a school bus, or construction-zone violations with workers present
