To Request Approval — Submit These

  • DSC Certificate of Course Completion (TEA-approved 6-hour course)
  • Request form with plea of Guilty or No Contest and notarized Driving Safety Course Affidavit (at time of request)
  • Proof of valid Texas driver's license (at time of request)
  • Proof of current liability insurance listing you as a driver (at time of request)

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certified copy of driving record from Texas DPS (Type 3A)

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: On or before the appearance date shown on the citation
  • Completion window: 90 days, beginning when your plea is received by the court.
  • Verbatim from court form: 'I waive my right to a jury trial and request a 90-day deferment to complete a Driving Safety Course. I understand that this plea enters a guilty judgment, and this judgment will be removed and no conviction will appear on my record upon submitting the following: 1) a certificate of Course Completion, 2) a certified copy of my driving record as maintained by the Texas Department of Public Safety.'
  • Verbatim from court form: 'My failure to comply with the terms of this request will result in assessment of a fine of $100 and a possible conviction on my driving record.'
  • Eligible for only one violation at a time; cannot be in the process of taking a DSC for any other citation
  • Not eligible if: speeding more than 24 mph over the limit (or 95+ mph), construction zone violation, CDL holder (now or at time of offense), or took a DSC for a citation within the last 12 months
