DSC Court Fees
⚠ Fee is assessed by the State and paid to the court at the time of the in-person request: $144 for all charges except speeding in a school zone; $169 for a speeding school zone violation.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •At time of request: proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance)
- •At time of request: valid Texas Driver's License (non-CDL)
- •At time of request: plea of guilty or no contest
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (course must be state-certified; motorcycle operator's course must be DPS-approved)
- •Certified driving record from Texas DPS (Type 3A)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: In person on or before the appearance date on the citation — 21 business days from the date of citation
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date of the request to submit the certificate of completion and DPS driving record to the court.
- •No online or mail DSC request option — in-person appearance is mandatory and online payment is not available for DSC
- •Drivers age 16 or under must appear before the Judge with a parent and/or guardian to request DSC
- •Not eligible if you have already paid the fine or made payment arrangements
- •CDL holders are NOT eligible for defensive driving
