DSC Court Fees
⚠ Official court application form states $144.00, plus $25.00 if the offense occurred in a school zone. (An older city webpage references 'court costs plus a $10 fee'; the current court form lists $144.00 — confirm with court.)
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license (or military/permit; non-commercial)
- •Copy of valid insurance card / proof of financial responsibility
- •Completed Application for Driving Safety Course with plea of guilty or nolo contendere
- •Sworn DSC affidavit (not taken a DSC in the preceding 12 months)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •signed 'COURT COPY' of Certificate of Completion
- •certified Type 3A copy of driving record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date on your citation
- •Completion window: 90 days — Certificate of Completion and certified driving record must reach the court no later than 90 days from your appearance date.
- •Eligible for DSC only once every 12 months.
- •Not eligible if: CDL holder (now or on offense date), construction zone with workers present, leaving the scene, passing a school bus, failing to obey a school crossing guard, speeding 25+ mph over the limit or over 90 mph, or completed a DSC within the last 12 months.
- •Must not have past-due fines or unanswered citations with the City of Portland.
- •Sign the 'COURT COPY' of the completion certificate before submitting it with your driving record.
