How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance) at time of request
- •Valid Texas driver's license at time of request
- •Plea of guilty or no contest at time of request
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certificate of completion from an approved driver safety course (after course)
- •Copy of your driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety (after course)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date shown on the citation (standard Texas rule — confirm with court)
- •Completion window: 90 days — 'Prosecution of your case will be postponed for 90 days'; certificate and driving record must be returned to the Court office within 90 days of the request.
- •Eligibility: must not have taken a driver safety course within the last 12 months, not currently taking one for another violation, and not hold a Commercial Driver's License.
- •Not eligible for serious offenses including speeding 20+ mph over the limit, reckless driving, fleeing police, or passing a school bus.
- •Motorcycle citations require an approved motorcycle operator's training course instead of the standard DSC.
- •Failure to return both completion documents within 90 days requires appearing before the Judge to show cause.
