How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license (not required for active-duty military)
- •Proof of insurance in your name
- •Affirmation you have not taken a driving safety course in the previous 12 months
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must request within 14 days of the citation (per court website; stricter than the typical Texas appearance-date deadline)
- •Completion window: Typically 90 days from court approval (standard Texas practice — confirm with court).
- •Court website lists two DSC types: mandatory and discretionary. Discretionary DSC may be granted if you missed the request deadline or took a DSC within the past 12 months — same other requirements apply.
- •DSC is not available for speeding more than 25 mph over the posted limit and certain other violations.
- •Deferred Disposition (probation) is an alternative; request it in person, by phone, or by mail on or before your first court date.
- •Court accepts check, money order, ATM debit card, and credit card.
