  • Texas DPS driving record showing no DSC taken in the preceding 12 months and license eligibility (Type 3A; order via DPS Form DR-1 by mail or print instantly from the Texas DPS online Driver Record system)

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: Contact the court for approval on or before your appearance date shown on the citation; you must enter a plea of no contest or guilty, show proof of insurance and a valid Texas driver license, and pay the fee
  • Completion window: 90 days — the judge defers imposition of judgment for 90 days to allow time to present the certificate of completion and driving record.
  • Eligible offenses: Rules of the Road violations (Transportation Code Chapters 541–600), disobeying warning signs/barricades (Sec. 472.022), and unrestrained child (Sec. 545.412, via a specialized course)
  • Verbatim court language: 'You must contact the court to be approved for driving safety. You will be required to provide: a plea, insurance and a Texas driver license with a fee of $109/$134 whichever may apply.'
  • If you fail to submit documents within the 90-day deferral, you must appear at a Show Cause Hearing; failure to appear results in conviction, the maximum fine, and reporting to DPS
