DSC Court Fees
⚠ $144 standard / $169 school zone for violations issued after January 1, 2020 (violations before that date: $129 / $154 school zone). In-person credit card payments carry a 3.5% processing fee.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license
- •Hard copy of valid personal automobile insurance policy or ID card with your name listed as a driver (insurance shown on a phone is not accepted)
- •Notarized Driving Safety Course Request form (if applying by mail)
- •Court cost payment ($144, or $169 school zone)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •completion certificate and certified Type 3A driving record by the court-set due date
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Appear in person or provide written notice to the court on or before the appearance date at the bottom of your citation (mailed requests must be postmarked by that date)
- •Completion window: The court sets your due date — after approval it sends instructions on how and where to take the course along with your deadline.
- •The mailed Driving Safety Course Request form must be notarized.
- •Do NOT take the course before the court grants permission — early completion does not qualify.
- •Not eligible if: speed was 25+ mph over the limit or 95+ mph, you hold a CDL, the offense was passing a stopped school bus, it's not a moving violation, you took a DSC in the past year, or the offense was in a construction zone with workers present.
- •The court does NOT accept faxes regarding cases; a phone call does not count as an appearance.
