How to Request DSC Approval

In-personRequest in writing before your appearance date at the Municipal Court Office, 2002 N. Cleveland St., Dayton, TX 77535; clerks available 8 AM–5 PM to discuss options.
MailMail the completed Defensive Driving Request form with required documents and payment to Dayton Municipal Court, 2002 N. Cleveland St., Dayton, TX 77535, before your appearance date.

To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Written request (Defensive Driving Request form) submitted before the appearance date on your citation
  • Plea of guilty or no contest (not-guilty pleas are not eligible)
  • Court administrative fee ($144, or $169 school zone)
  • Court copy of completion certificate from a state-approved driving safety course, signed by you, showing completion for Dayton Municipal Court

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certified copy of your driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: Request must be made in writing, by mail or in person, before the appearance date on your citation
  • Completion window: 90 days from the date of your request to submit the course certificate and certified driving record.
  • Not eligible if you hold (or held at the time of offense) a commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • Not eligible if you completed a defensive driving course for ticket dismissal in the preceding 12 months — the court verifies this against your certified driving record.
  • If you fail to comply, the court sets a show-cause hearing; the judge may find you guilty and the conviction goes on your record.
  • On successful completion the ticket is dismissed and the violation does not appear on your driving record.
