DSC Court Fees
⚠ Court FAQ states $144 court costs must be paid upfront when requesting defensive driving; no separate school-zone fee published — call court to confirm. Phone card payments carry an additional 5% processing fee.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid driver's license
- •Proof of insurance (financial responsibility)
- •Affirmation you have not taken/are not currently taking defensive driving within the past year
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •certificate of completion and certified Type 3A driving record (standard requirement)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Appear in person on or before the court date listed on your citation
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the driving safety course.
- •Failure to complete the course within the 90-day window requires paying the remaining balance of the citation.
- •Eligibility per court FAQ: must not have taken defensive driving within the past year and must not currently be enrolled in one.
- •Deferred disposition is also offered (90–180 day probation, full citation paid upfront); not available for 25+ mph over, CDL holders, or construction zones with workers present.
- •Compliance dismissals available for expired license/registration, no DL displayed, insurance, defective equipment, and plate violations ($10–$20 dismissal fees).
