To Request Approval — Submit These

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certificate of Completion from a TDLR-approved driving safety course
  • Certified copy of driving record (Type 3A) from Texas DPS — court provides the proper application at the time of request

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: Request permission and pay fee by the appearance date shown on the citation
  • Completion window: 90 days to complete the course and return required documents to the court.
  • Eligibility: valid Texas Driver's License (military/military dependents exempt), liability insurance listing you as a covered driver, and no DSC taken in the preceding 12 months for ticket dismissal
  • Not eligible: CDL holders, passing a school bus, construction zone violations, or speeding 25+ mph over the limit or 95 mph and above
  • Court states it is not allowed to recommend a driving school; choose any TDLR-approved provider
  • Court notes a telephone call does not constitute a court appearance; allow 5 business days for citation processing
