DSC Court Fees
⚠ Fees published on the court's Defensive Driving page for citations issued on or after Jan 1, 2020 (older citations carry lower tiers — $134/$159 for Sep–Dec 2019, $114/$139 before Sep 2019). Mail requests must pay by cashier's check or money order.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed and signed DSC Request/Affidavit form (Galveston Municipal Court form — see form_links)
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit
- •Proof of financial responsibility (vehicle liability insurance in defendant's name, per Chapter 601 TRC)
- •Payment of court costs (call (409) 765-3740 for exact amount)
- •After course completion (due by 90th day): Uniform Certificate of Course Completion
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •After course completion (due by 90th day): Type 3A Certified Complete Driving History from Texas DPS (proving no DSC taken in prior 12 months — fee: $12 from DPS)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •On or before citation due date (appearance date). Citation must NOT be in failure-to-appear status. Mail requests must be RECEIVED by the court by the due date.
- •You have 90 days from court approval/request date. NO EXTENSION WILL BE GRANTED. to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •VERBATIM (affidavit): 'ON OR BEFORE 90 DAYS FROM TODAY'S DATE. NO EXTENSION WILL BE GRANTED.'
- •VERBATIM (affidavit): 'YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING PROOF TO THE COURT. IF YOU CHOOSE TO SEND IT BY MAIL AND THE COURT DOES NOT RECEIVE IT, A WARRANT MAY BE ISSUED FOR YOUR ARREST.'
- •VERBATIM (affidavit): 'It is my responsibility to notify the Court of any changes in my address or phone number.'
- •Per the court's online payment portal: 'You can now sign up for a payment extension, deferred disposition, and/or Driving Safety Course (DSC) online.' — DSC sign-up is available via the MOP portal.
