How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas Driver's License (presented at time of request)
- •Proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (TEA/TDLR-approved course)
- •Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be made prior to your initial hearing/appearance date and before taking the course
- •Completion window: 90 days — prosecution is postponed for 90 days; the Course Completion Certificate and Type 3A driving record must be presented to the court before the 90-day period ends.
- •Eligibility: no DSC taken in the 12 months preceding the offense, not currently enrolled in a DSC for another violation, not speeding 25+ mph over the limit, and no serious violations (fleeing police, reckless driving, passing a school bus, leaving the scene of an accident)
- •CDL holders are not eligible for defensive driving dismissal
- •A plea of guilty or nolo contendere is required at the time of the DSC request
