How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Signed Driver's Safety Course (DSC) Form
- •Valid Texas Driver's License (no CDLs)
- •Insurance card showing defendant's name as a covered driver
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Driving Record Request form
- •original DSC Certificate of Completion and original Type 3A driving record, submitted together
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be made (postmarked or received by the court) prior to the court date on the citation; 'If the request is not made by the court date, the defendant may lose the option to take the course.'
- •Completion window: By the due date provided on the driving safety order (no fixed 90-day window stated); 'Failure to take the course and turn in the documents by the due date may result in a conviction being entered and payment of the remaining balance becoming due.'.
- •Eligibility: must not have completed a DSC within 12 months prior to the citation date; must plead guilty or no contest
- •Defendants 16 years or younger must make a formal court appearance with a parent or legal guardian to request permission
- •Ineligible: construction zone violations with workers present, speeding 25+ mph over the limit, passing a school bus while loading/unloading, and CDL holders
- •Completion documents (original certificate + Type 3A driving record) must be submitted together in person, by mail, or via the drop box beside the lobby doors
