The Colony Municipal Court — Driver Safety Course Instructions
DSC Court Fees
⚠ Court costs and administrative fee due at the time of the request or within 15 days of the request. Payment accepted: cash, money order, cashier's check, credit/debit card, or personal check.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed and signed Driving Safety Course Application (includes sworn no-contest plea and eligibility affirmations)
- •Copy of valid non-commercial Texas driver's license (or active-duty military/spouse/dependent status)
- •Valid proof of financial responsibility (vehicle liability insurance) at time of request
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •court copy of TDLR-certified Driving Safety Course completion certificate (signed, with City of The Colony or The Colony Municipal Court listed)
- •certified Type 3A copy of driving record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the initial appearance date shown on the citation
- •Completion window: 90 days — certificate and Type 3A driving record must be submitted on or before the 90th day indicated on the Driving Safety Course order.
- •Application requires a sworn NO CONTEST plea, waiver of jury trial, attorney, and discovery; the application's affirmations serve as the affidavit (no separate notarized affidavit mentioned)
- •Court authorization is required BEFORE taking the course: 'I further understand that I must receive authorization from the Court prior to taking the course.'
- •Ineligible if: speeding more than 24 mph over the limit, 95 mph or more, CDL holder, serious traffic offense including any offense in a construction zone with workers present, or a DSC taken for dismissal within the 12 months before the offense
- •Verbatim: 'If you fail to comply with all the conditions set by this court... a judgment and conviction will be entered against you... A Capias Pro Fine warrant will be issued if you fail to pay the remaining balance of the fine assessed.'
