How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Proof of valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of current liability insurance listing the defendant as an eligible driver
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (uniform certificate from a TDLR-approved 6-hour course)
- •Copy of driving record (obtain from Texas DPS; Type 3A)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must notify the court on or before the initial appearance date listed on the citation
- •Completion window: Not stated on official page — standard Texas window is 90 days from court approval; confirm with court.
- •Verbatim court language: 'Do not complete a Driving Safety Course until the Court permits you to do so.'
- •Eligibility: must plead guilty or no contest; cannot have completed a DSC within 12 months preceding the alleged offense date, and cannot be currently taking a course for another citation
- •Ineligible offenses: speeding 25+ mph over the limit, passing a school bus, moving violations in active construction zones, commercial vehicle violations, leaving the scene of an accident
- •Upon compliance the citation is dismissed; only the course completion date is reported to DPS
