DSC Court Fees
⚠ Fees cover court costs and administrative fees combined; fee must be paid BEFORE taking the course — coursework dated before the fee payment date will not be accepted.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas Driver's License
- •Proof of liability insurance valid on the citation date
- •Plea of guilty or nolo contendere
- •Completed sworn Driver Safety Course (DSC) Affidavit
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •signed 'Court Copy' of the defensive driving certificate
- •certified Texas DPS driving record (Type 3A, $12.00 to DPS) showing no DSC taken within 12 months of ticket issuance — all pages must be included
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must request DSC before the ticket due date (appearance date)
- •Completion window: 90 days from court approval to complete the course and submit paperwork.
- •Verbatim rule: 'If the date on your course work is prior to the date the required court fee was paid, the documents will not be accepted.'
- •If unable to complete requirements within 90 days, the Court sets a Show Cause Hearing; failure to appear can result in an arrest warrant.
- •Ineligible if: DSC/motorcycle course taken for a traffic offense in the last 12 months, currently taking a DSC for another violation, or holder of a CDL.
- •Excluded offenses include leaving the scene, fleeing police, reckless driving, passing a school bus, speeding 24+ mph over the limit, and construction zone offenses.
