⚠ Fee is court costs plus a $10 administrative fee, paid at the time of request; payable online at the court's payment portal
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Plea of guilty or no contest at time of request
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •TEA/TDLR-approved driving safety course Certificate of Completion
- •Certified copy of Texas DPS driving record (Type 3A) showing no DSC taken in the preceding 12 months
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before 15 days from the date the citation was issued
- •Completion window: 90 days — case is deferred for 90 days, during which the completion certificate and certified driving record must be presented to the court.
- •Verbatim court rule: request 'must be made on or before 15 days from the date the citation was issued' — stricter than the usual appearance-date standard, so act quickly
- •Ineligible if: you took a DSC or motorcycle operator course for a traffic offense in the last 12 months, are currently taking one for another violation, or hold a CDL
- •Ineligible offenses include speeding 25+ mph over the limit, school zone/school bus violations, construction zone offenses, no insurance, and leaving the scene
