How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed affidavit (provided by/filed with the court at time of request)
- •Valid Texas driver's license (presented at request)
- •Proof of liability insurance (presented at request)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (allow up to 2 weeks for DPS/course provider to mail it)
- •Certified copy of driving record — Type 3A from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be received or postmarked within 20 days of the date on the citation
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the 6-hour course and submit the certificate of completion and Type 3A certified driving record.
- •Not eligible if: you took a DSC for dismissal within 12 months of the offense date, are currently enrolled in a DSC for another violation, or hold a commercial driver's license.
- •Ineligible violations include speeding 25+ mph over the limit, leaving the scene of an accident, passing a school bus, and moving violations in an active construction zone.
- •Course must be a TDLR/TEA-approved 6-hour course; classroom or online both accepted.
- •Failure to submit required documents triggers a Show Cause Hearing; per the court, 'If you fail to appear at the hearing, a warrant may be issued for your arrest.'
