To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Valid Texas Driver's License (copy at time of request)
  • Proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance card with your name listed)
  • Request for Driver Safety Course and Affidavit (completed and signed, if not requesting online)

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • DSC Certificate of Completion (Court Copy, signed)
  • Certified Type 3A Texas driving record from Texas DPS

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: On or before the appearance date on the citation (in person, online, or in writing via certified mail)
  • Completion window: 90 days from the date the Judge grants the request — no extensions granted.
  • Once your request has been granted by the Judge, you will have 90 days to complete the driving safety course (no extensions will be granted) and present evidence of completion by the 90th day along with a certified copy of your Texas driving record (Type 3A).
  • Not eligible if you completed a DSC within 12 months before the current offense, hold a CDL, or were charged with: accident scene violations, school bus offenses, speeding 25+ mph over the limit or 95 mph or more, construction zone offenses, or commercial vehicle violations.
  • Active duty military may use an out-of-state license with military ID.
  • After proof of satisfactory completion and the driving record are presented to the Court, the judge will dismiss the case.
