How to Request DSC Approval

To Request Approval — Submit These

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • After course (within 90 days of request): DSC Certificate of Completion from the driving school
  • copy of driving record — Type 3A (request via DPS form DR-1 or online at txapps.texas.gov)

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: On or before the 20th day from the date of the citation, or in open court
  • Completion window: 90 days from the date of the request to submit the Certificate of Completion and driving record.
  • Eligibility: valid Texas driver's license or Military ID, proof of liability insurance with your name listed, no DSC taken in the prior 12 months, and the charge must be a moving violation with speeding no more than 24 mph over the limit
  • Ineligible: CDL holders, out-of-state license holders, speeding 25+ mph over the limit, speeding 95 mph or more, speeding in a construction zone with workers present, passing a school bus, hit-and-run charges, and non-moving violations
  • Court quotes the request window verbatim as 'before your 20th day or in open court'
  • Deferred disposition is also offered (180-day probation); defendants under 25 granted deferred disposition must complete a driving safety course
