How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Copy of insurance information supplied online (only if you applied online)
- •Signed legal affidavit stating you have not taken a DSC for ticket dismissal in the 12 months prior to the citation date
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certificate of completion marked 'Court Copy' from a state-approved driving safety course
- •Certified copy of your driving record (Type 3A) from the Texas Department of Public Safety
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date on your citation (in person or via the online payment portal)
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the course and return all documentation to the Court — 'No extensions will be given.'.
- •Requesting DSC requires entering a plea of Guilty or No Contest
- •Must hold a valid Texas driver's license or permit and have proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
- •Not eligible if: CDL holder; speeding 25+ mph over the limit; or charged with construction/work zone violations with workers present, passing a school bus, reckless driving, fleeing police, accident involving vehicle damage, failure to render aid, or serious CDL traffic violations
- •Use the Type 3A version of the DPS driving record
