How to Request DSC Approval

E-fileMandatory as of March 2025 — paper/in-person submissions are no longer accepted.

To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Completed 'Defendants Plea and Request for DSC' form
  • Payment of court costs by cashier's check or money order at time of request (call to confirm the amount)
  • Completion certificate from a TDLR-approved Driving Safety Course

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certified copy of Texas DPS Type 3A driving record (obtained from DPS)

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: On or before the appearance date shown on the citation
  • Completion window: 90 days.
  • JP 1-1 posts its DSC costs on its official information sheet: $146.00 ($171.00 in a school zone), paid up front and subject to change — call (972) 228-0280 to confirm before your appearance date. Note: Precinct 1 requires e-filing as of March 2025.
  • Effective March 1, 2025, JP 1-1 requires MANDATORY e-filing; paper-only submissions no longer accepted.
  • DSC is not available if you completed a DSC to dismiss a ticket within the 12 months preceding the date of the current offense.
  • Ineligible offenses include: speeding 25+ mph over the limit or 95+ mph, school-bus passing, reckless driving, fleeing/eluding police, construction-zone violations when workers are present.
