How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed 'Request to Take Driver Safety Course' form (required before request is considered)
- •Plea of Guilty or No Contest
- •Valid Texas driver's license
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •certificate of completion from a Texas-approved driving safety course
- •certified copy of driving record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Within 20 days of the date the citation was issued
- •Completion window: 90 days after court approval to complete the course and return all documentation — 'No extensions'.
- •Court warns: do not take a driving safety course without first obtaining permission from the Court.
- •Ineligible if: holding a commercial driver's license, speeding 25+ mph over the limit, or charged with reckless driving, fleeing police, passing a school bus, or construction-zone violations.
- •Not eligible if you took a DSC for ticket dismissal within the 12 months prior to the citation date.
- •Online payment portal warning: 'paying online will result as a conviction on your driving record' — do not simply pay the fine online if requesting DSC.
