How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit (must NOT be a CDL; exception for active-duty US military and immediate family)
- •Proof of insurance listing you as an insured driver
- •Notarized request/affidavit form (if requesting by mail)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •certificate of completion from a six (6) hour Texas-approved driver safety course
- •copy of your driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the answer deadline on your citation — within 15 business days after the issue date of the citation
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the 6-hour Texas-approved course and obtain your DPS driving record.
- •The court must approve your request BEFORE you start a driving safety course.
- •Defendants under 25 years old given a citation are required to take a driving safety course.
- •Not eligible if charged with speeding 25+ mph over the limit or driving 95 mph or more, or if you completed a DSC for dismissal within the 12 months prior to the citation.
- •Additional disqualifying violations include construction-zone offenses, passing a school bus, and reckless driving.
