Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
- •Affidavit stating you are not currently taking and have not completed another Texas-approved driving safety course within one year of the citation date
- •Non-refundable court fee payment
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •'Court Copy' of the certificate of completion
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Enter a plea of guilty or no contest and request the course on or before your scheduled court date
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date of citation to complete the course, plus 30 additional days to provide proof of completion to the court.
- •CDL holders are not eligible.
- •Not eligible if charged with: speeding 25 mph or more over the limit, passing a school bus, a serious traffic violation, failure to stop and provide information or render aid, an offense in a construction zone with workers present, or failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
- •If completion documents arrive late, a mandatory Show Cause Hearing is required; non-compliance results in conviction, full fine due, and possible arrest warrant.
