How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Affidavit stating you are not taking the course for any other traffic violation
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (TDLR/TEA-approved course; motorcycle operator's training course if cited on a motorcycle)
- •Certified copy of driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety (Type 3A)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Before the appearance date on the citation — in person, by counsel, or by certified mail
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date the case is deferred.
- •At time of request you must plead guilty or no contest, pay court costs and the $10 administrative fee if required, present proof of financial responsibility (insurance), and present a Texas Driver's License
- •Ineligible if you took a DSC/motorcycle course for a traffic offense in the preceding 12 months, are currently taking one for another violation, or hold a Commercial Driver's License
- •Not available for certain serious offenses: accident-related violations, passing a school bus, speeding 25+ mph over the limit, and work zone violations
- •Motorcycle operators must take a motorcycle operator's training course instead of the standard DSC
