How to Request DSC Approval

In-personRequest DSC in person at the court office, Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., before your scheduled court date. Bring insurance card (with your name on the policy), valid Texas driver's license, and payment. After completion, submit certificate and driving record in person.
MailCompletion documents may be submitted by certified mail by the due date on the driving safety order. To request DSC by mail, call the court at (979) 849-2471 for instructions.

To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Valid Texas (non-commercial) driver's license
  • Proof of insurance with defendant's name on the policy
  • Payment of the $144/$169 court cost at time of request

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • original certificate of completion
  • certified Type 3A driving record — must be submitted together with the certificate

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: Must appear at the court office, sign an agreement, and pay the court cost before the scheduled court date (appearance date on the citation)
  • Completion window: By the due date provided on the court's driving safety order (typically 90 days under Texas law; confirm with court).
  • Eligibility: no DSC taken in the 12 months before the citation date; speed must be less than 25 mph over the limit; not available for construction-zone violations with workers present or passing a stopped school bus; non-commercial license holders only.
  • Defendants age 16 or younger need judge approval and must appear with a parent/guardian.
  • Certificate and Type 3A driving record must be submitted TOGETHER, in person or by certified mail.
  • Court page notes some driving-safety classes can e-file your completion certificate directly to the court.
