How to Request DSC Approval

In-personSubmit request at the court lobby window, 2150 Universal City Blvd, Universal City, TX 78148, on or before your court date
MailSend by certified mail: bottom portion of citation, signed request to take defensive driving, plea of guilty or no contest, photocopies of TX driver's license and current insurance card, payment (money order/cashier's check), and a self-addressed stamped envelope

To Request Approval — Submit These

  • Photocopy of a valid Texas driver's license (with request)
  • Photocopy of a current insurance card with your name as a listed driver (with request)

After Completing the Course — Submit These

  • Certificate of completion from a state-approved course showing 'Universal City Municipal Court' (court copy, signed)
  • Certified copy of your driving record (Type 3A) from the Texas Department of Public Safety

Important Deadlines & Local Rules

  • Request deadline: On or before your court/appearance date — otherwise you lose the right to take defensive driving
  • Completion window: 90 days from the request to turn in all required documentation; no extensions granted. If the due date falls on a Sunday or holiday, documents are due by 6 p.m. the following business day.
  • Do NOT take the course before the court approves your request, and do NOT pay the ticket online if requesting DSC
  • Ineligible if: violation 25+ MPH over the limit, passing a stopped school bus, offense in a construction zone with workers present, a DSC course taken within the past year or currently in progress elsewhere, or holding a CDL (even if the offense was in a private vehicle)
  • Driving record certificate from the school typically takes about three weeks to arrive — request early within the 90-day window
