How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Proof of current insurance with defendant's name
- •Copy of valid driver's license
- •Payment of $144.00 (money order, cashier check, credit card, or cash; no personal checks)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •certificate of completion
- •certified Type 3A driving record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Defendant must receive approval by the Court on or before their Initial Court date, prior to taking the class
- •Completion window: Typically 90 days from court approval (standard Texas practice — confirm with court).
- •Eligibility: defendant must not have taken DSC within the last 12 months and must not have been going 25 mph or more over the posted speed limit.
- •Verbatim: 'Defendant must receive approval by the Court, on or before their Initial Court date, prior to taking the class.'
- •Verbatim: 'Defendants possessing a Commercial License are unable to participate in Defensive Driving or Deferred Disposition.'
- •Warning on online payment portal: 'If you pay online, you will be convicted of the offense for which you paid' — do not pay online if requesting DSC.
