DSC Court Fees
⚠ Per the court's official Safety Course Request form: 'Pay court costs and administrative fee totaling $144.00 OR if the offense occurred in a school zone $169.00.' Citations before Jan 1, 2020 — contact the court. Online/phone payments add a 2% card fee plus $1.50 technology fee.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed/signed Leon Valley Safety Course Request form with sworn affidavit (no-contest plea, statement that no DSC taken in preceding 12 months)
- •Copy of valid Texas driver license or permit
- •Copy of proof of financial responsibility (vehicle insurance)
- •Payment of $144.00 court costs and administrative fee ($169.00 if school zone)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •uniform certificate of course completion with your signature, by the 90th day
- •certified copy of your DPS driving record, by the 90th day
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request on or before the appearance date shown on the citation. A request after that date requires scheduling an in-person court date before the Judge (docket held twice a month).
- •Completion window: 90 days from the request — complete a TEA/TDLR-approved course (or DPS-approved motorcycle operator course) within 90 days and submit the certificate and certified DPS driving record by the 90th day.
- •Form requires entering a No Contest plea and waiving jury trial when requesting DSC.
- •Affidavit: must swear no DSC currently being taken and none in the 12 months preceding the violation.
- •Failure to comply triggers a Show Cause hearing; a maximum fine of $200.00 may be assessed, and failure to appear/pay results in an arrest warrant.
- •Paying a citation in full online results in a conviction reported to DPS — do not pay the full fine if you want DSC; call the court first.
