DSC Court Fees
⚠ Mail-in DSC request form requires a cashier's check or money order of $144.00 ($169.00 for school zone offenses); the court's procedures pamphlet describes this as court costs plus a $10 administrative fee, if required.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Uniform Certificate of Course Completion from a TEA/TDLR-approved driving safety course (or DPS-approved motorcycle operator training course verification), submitted by the 90th day
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of your Texas DPS driving record (Type 3A) showing no DSC within the preceding 12 months, submitted by the 90th day
- •Sworn/notarized affidavit stating you were not taking a DSC at the time of the request and have not completed one in the preceding 12 months that is not shown on your driving record, submitted by the 90th day
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the appearance date shown on the citation; request must be made by the defendant in person, by legal counsel, or by certified mail
- •Completion window: 90 days — the case is deferred for 90 days; course completion certificate, certified driving record, and affidavit must be submitted by the 90th day from the request.
- •At the time of request you must plead guilty or no contest, pay court costs and a $10 fee (if required), present proof of financial responsibility (insurance), and present a valid Texas driver's license or permit (any-state license accepted for active military and their spouses/dependent children).
- •Ineligible if: you took a DSC or motorcycle operator course for a traffic offense within the last 12 months; are currently taking one; held a CDL at the time of offense; or the charge is failure to give information/leaving the scene of an accident, passing a school bus, a serious CMV traffic violation, an offense in a construction/maintenance work zone with workers present, speeding 25+ mph over the limit, or speeding 95 mph or more.
- •Motorcycle operators may be required to take a motorcycle operator's training course; a charge of allowing a child to ride unsecured requires a special DSC with four hours of child passenger safety seat training.
- •Verbatim court language: 'If you do not present the required documents in time, the court will notify you to return to court and explain why you failed... Your failure to be present at that hearing will result in a conviction, a fine being assessed, and a capias pro fine for your arrest being issued.'
